Page from Abandon the Old in Tokyo

Published by Drawn and Quarterly Books, 2006

Art and story by Yoshihiro Tatsumi - Approximately 200 pages; $19.95 USD Retail - Amazon.com

Tatsumi takes on the topic of psychological degradation and the human results in a way that isn't for quasi-glamour or titillation, which seems to be the only way it is handled in mainstream comic books (see a typical superhero comic where the hero is degraded: Tony Stark, Clark Kent, etc., its all part of the cycle of rebirth to triumph).

With Tatsumi, human beings can be broken, and the results are ridiculous, sad, puzzling, or mystifying.
