Scott McDaniel page from Trinity #37 - Punch and Jewelee

DC Comics Feb 2009 cover date

Something about a "Necrotechnic Spellgram" from a "Necrotechnic Scanner" which makes Jewelee and Punch scream. The story seems to be over-detailed on the gizmos and occult trappings and under-detailed on the (super)human bits. But Scott McDaniel's artwork is dynamic and has the strength of a kind of spontaneity that seems to always make his artwork stand out. The inks are by Andy Owens.

The colors for the page from Trinity #37 is by Allen Passala. The pages are bright with dark edges befitting the terrain. The package in general makes me wonder if DC Comics should be paying royalties to the Jack Kirby estate, since so many of his art elements seem to power the imaginations of so many artists (and writers).

I like Scott McDaniels art. It is always loose and aggressive in a way that is the antithesis of the stiff and over-detailed superhero art of cliché. See another page from Trinity #37 by Scott McDaniel here.
