John Bolton artwork from Twisted Tales #4, 1982

Bolton's art has a slight Frazetta influence, but it seems mostly in his ability to capture "the peak moment" (as Frank Frazetta calls it) of a particular frozen micro-second of action and motion.

The briefly lived Pacific Comics produced a series of EC Comic style anthology books Twisted Tales and Alien Worlds. Both titles used comic book art luminaries (past and future) and were typically a much better product that the DC and Marvel stuff then available. Everything was written by comic book story factory foreman Bruce Jones.

Bolton's art on this 11 page Bruce Jones' tale reminded me of Frazetta's so-called "spec art" that he used as a sample page in the 1950s. Here are two panels from that page (see the whole page here):
