Written by Grant Morrison and artwork by Frank Quitely. Coloring by Alex Sinclair.
Nice handling of blacks, and the coloring creates a nice environment for a black/red page.
An interesting thing about how Frank Quitely draws people is that his figures possess worked-out skull shapes. There are eyes on the face, of course, but they exist inside actual eye socket holes in the underlying skull - - it is a significant level of sophistication in the anatomy-centric world of superhero art, and separates Quitely from many who sometimes have facial features floating loose on a head.
Another attribute of Quitely's art is the scritchy lines used to darken and shape folds, lumps, contours and create weight and texture. His attention to these details, besides the unusual cinematic letterbox-shaped panels and layout within those panels, makes Quitely unique among superhero books that are all too often anti-septic in their appearance.
