The finale for the fireworks show consisted of the firing of dozens of rockets all at once. It lit up the area brightly, to say the least. Like a symphony by Mozart nemesis Salieri, you have a "big bang" at the end to let the people know it's over.

Though only in the upper 80s in temperature, which is pretty mild for a Virginia summer (in fact the next day it was 65 and raining, strangely cool to say the least) the packed humanity on the grounds of Byrd Park waiting for, and then watching, the fireworks got to be a sweaty lot.
