Batman 713 - Last issue of original run

October 2011 Cover Date

Detective Comics (from whence comes the company name of "D" "C" Comics) had come close to being cancelled in the 1970s when sales dive-bombed for awhile, but I do not remember ever hearing of the Batman comic ever being slated for death, but here's the perennial Batman comic ending at #713 so that DC Comics can relaunch everything (well, not everything, only 52 books are on the DC schedule) as part of their "New 52" marketing blitz.

A smorgasboard of artists populate the final issue of Batman, with art chores spread across pencillers Steve Scott, Daniel Sampere and Andrei Bressan, and inks from Walden Wong, Rich Perrotta, Andrei Bressan and Rodney Ramos.Thankfully, only one writer has to put together this last tale, and it's by Fabian Nicieza. Basically an overview of Batman in general, with some history thrown in, along with an affectionate send-off for the 'original' Batman version.
